12th International Symposium on Aquatic Oligochaeta 10-14 September 2012

The 12th International Symposium on Aquatic Oligochaeta will be held in Fremantle, Western Australia, on 10-14 September 2012.

These international oligochaete symposia are held every three years and encompass aspects of research into the biology, ecology, biodiversity and systematics of marine, estuarine and freshwater oligochaetes and some related clitellate worms.

There are 56 species of marine and freshwater oligochaetes known from New Zealand marine and inland waters, many of which are endemic. It is likely that more than this number remain undiscovered.

Poster or oral presentations from New Zealand’s aquatic researchers dealing with oligochaetes, even if they constitute only a small aspect of your research, will be very welcome. Otherwise, this will be a great opportunity to learn more about these ecologically important, but frequently neglected, components of aquatic communities. We will also hold a workshop on identifying Antipodean oligochaetes as part of the symposium (probably on Friday 7th Sep), with sessions run by leading taxonomists.

More information (and a poster) is available at or email
