Call for the 4th World Lake Student Meeting, Lake Biwa July 4 to 7, 2012

“Facing the World Water Crisis”
To whom it may concern,
The World Water and Climate Network (WWCN) is seeking ten distinguished students who study any of the fresh water sciences to join the 4th World Lake Student Meeting. The meeting will be held from July 4 to 7 at Lake Biwa and will include attending the 2012 ASLO-Japan in Otsu from July 8 to 13 in conjunction with the International Lake Environmental Committee Foundation (ILEC).
We are pleased to cover all necessary expenses for the students to attend both meetings and we can provide this unique opportunity to share both classic and/or modern fresh water sciences with distinguished researchers and outstanding students from different nations. The problems concerning fresh water resources in the world are becoming increasingly serious and the effective transfer of experience and knowledge on fresh water ecosystems are required to save and manage the world’s lakes and rivers as climate change increases its impact on water quality and quantity.
The 4th World Lake Student Meeting will be focused on but not be limited to the issues of the world water crisis in order to evaluate and anticipate sudden changes resulting from uncontrollable events such as climatic change. Following a critical situation such as the Japan’s tsunami and nuclear disaster in 2011, we may not be able to meet proposed dramatic reduction of CO2 in the near future. This will necessitate an improved understanding of water management on our warming planet.
Student belonging to both undergraduate and graduate courses may apply to join this conference by submitting one page abstract which shows your interest and ideas on the future direction of water crisis in the world. Send one page abstract, your CV and one letter of recommendation from your supervisor to Dr. Tomohiro Sato ( of ILEC by March 7, 2012. The following committee members will select ten students from applicants and inform you of the result by April 30, 2012. Students are also required to submit the same abstracts to SS26 of ASLO-Japan by March 1, 2012
( ). The registration fee can be reimbursed after accepted.
