Environmental Scientist – Aquatic Ecology
Southland is home to some of New Zealand’s most pristine and revered
environments, and Environment Southland needs to enlist the services of an
Aquatic Scientist to help us ensure they remain that way.
The Aquatic Scientist will report to the Snr Surfacewater/Coast Scientist.
You will be required to work with a small team of science professionals who
undertake Council’s statutory monitoring, investigation and reporting
activities and day-to-day management of the region’s resources. You’ll
also focus on the long-term research and monitoring outcomes required to
ensure Southland’s water quality and quantity can support the region’s
future needs.
Environmental information is an integral part of our day-to-day business and
we pride ourselves on our expansive environmental information collection,
our contribution to local and national research programmes and our strong
focus on strategic and statutory excellence.
Pressures on water resources in Southland are intensifying. Increased public
awareness of water issues has also meant that there is public demand for
access to surface water information.
The role of Aquatic Scientist is best suited to a science professional who
is a team player and can demonstrate the ability to work in a dynamic, high
out-put environment, and who will contribute to the organisation at both a
strategic and operational level.
