International Society of Limnology - News

Dear NZFSS Member,

I wanted to circulate the latest newsletter (click here) from the International Society of Limnology and take the opportunity to mention three things:

1) As you will note in the bulletin, the death of Brian Moss.  Many of us have read, and taught from, the freshwater text books that he wrote.  Brian’s contribution in the Bulletin prior to his death speaks to his intelligence, ability to engage with scientists at all levels, and enthusiasm for sustaining the environment.  A legacy will be his final book which will be used for teaching and research throughout the world in future.

2)  Jeremy (Jay) Piggott, as winner of the SIL best student paper, will give a plenary at the SIL Congress in Torino, Italy, 31st July to 5th August this year.  Thanks Jeremy, for representing NZ on the international stage.

3) An unreserved plug for joining SIL.  Students can join for US$5 per year!  Joining gives you access to SIL News, the Society’s journal Inland Waters, and provides discounts on the Society’s Conference (see: or email me).

David Hamilton
NZ Representative for the International Society of Limnology (SIL)
