Senior Environmental Scientist – Surface Water/Coast
Southland is home to some of New Zealand’s most pristine and revered environments and Environment Southland needs to enlist the services of a Senior Environmental Scientist to help us ensure they remain that way.
The Senior Environmental Scientist – Surface Water/Coast position reports to the Environmental Information Manager. You will be required to work with, and manage a small team of science professionals, who undertake Council’s statutory monitoring, investigation and reporting activities and day-to-day management of the region’s surface water and coastal resources. You’ll also focus on the long-term research and monitoring outcomes required to ensure Southland’s water quality and quantity can support our future economic, ecological and recreational needs. A current major project is our State of the Environment (Water) Report, which you will also be involved in.
Environmental information is an integral aspect of our day-to-day business and we pride ourselves on our expansive environmental information collection, our contribution to local and national research programmes and our strong focus on strategic and statutory excellence.
The role of Senior Environmental Scientist – Surface Water/Coast is best suited to a science professional who can demonstrate strong leadership skills, the ability to work in a dynamic, high-output environment and who can contribute to the organisation at both a strategic and operational level.
