SUBMISSION TO THE PROPOSED NATIONAL POLICY STATEMENT ON INDIGENOUS BIODIVERSITY

The society through its Chair recently submitted to the process to consider a National Policy Statement on Indigenous Biodiversity (NPS).  The submission reflects the input of a number of people and highlights the strength of the collective thinking within the society.

As the NPS is intended to provide clearer direction to local authorities on their responsibilities for managing indigenous biodiversity under the Resource Management Act 1991, and it outlines policies and decision-making frameworks for the identification and management of indigenous biodiversity found outside the public conservation estate, it was important that the society put forward a submission.

Our sincere appreciation is conveyed to the following contributors who assisted in developing our submission:

Roger Young, Joe Hay, Kate McArthur, Carol Nicholson, Logan Brown, Manas Chakraborty, Maree Clark, Clare Ridler, Fleur Maseyk, Iain Maxwell, Neil Dean, Colin Townsend, Kevin Collier, Mark Hamer, Bill Chisholm, Carolyn Burns, Brian Sorell and David Hamilton.
