Vacancy: MfE Senior Analyst - Freshwater

Senior Analyst - Freshwater
Natural Systems Analysis

Vacancy 1469
Closing Date:  5pm, Sunday 19 May 2013

Want to drive the evidence behind environmental policy?

We have a full-time, permanent opportunity to join our Wellington-based team.

The Natural Systems Analysis team ensures that robust scientific evidence underpins natural resource policy, and that credible information is available to the public about New Zealand’s environmental performance.  We work closely with regional councils, researchers, and other Government departments to provide a scientifically sound, policy-relevant evidence base.

As a senior analyst, you’ll lead initiatives to improve the availability and management of information on New Zealand’s freshwater environment.  You’ll engage across the sector to deliver the right information for decision making, and to ensure it reflects good practice, is aligned with analytical frameworks, and is available for easy reuse.  You’ll draw on your expertise as well as contacts in the research community to provide trustworthy advice on freshwater issues.

You’ll be joining an organisation with a clear sense of purpose and a strong focus on developing its people.  You’ll have responsibility for results (not tasks), and be given the latitude, trust and support to deliver.  As part of the team, you’ll also have a role in coaching and developing less experienced staff.

At the nexus between the production of information and its use in decision making, you’ll collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders and be regularly challenged to think creatively and to look at a problem through different lenses to find a robust solution.

And you’ll be working in a friendly atmosphere with a great bunch of people who know their stuff.

You’ll ideally have experience interpreting freshwater science in a policy context.  You’ll enjoy the challenges of applying technical information to policy questions and of shaping our investment in evidence to address user needs.
You’ll have a proven ability to lead and influence others, and to deliver results across organisational boundaries.

You’ll enjoy operating as part of a team, be proactive and enquiring, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
