Three NZFSS research scholarships now available

The NZFSS executive committee and Te Wai Māori rōpū are very pleased to announce three research scholarships are now available to applicants undertaking freshwater research in honours or masters programmes.  Please feel free to pass on the details of these scholarships to your professional networks and colleagues.

He Manawā ā Whenua Māori Freshwater Research Scholarship

Mō wai, mōu māori mā – Water for all

The New Zealand Freshwater Sciences Society are currently taking applications for He Manawā ā whenua Māori Freshwater Research Scholarship.  Manawa ā-whenua are aquifers, bodies of water underground, unseen, many untapped! The potential for Māori students is primarily unseen, and for too many, untapped, waiting to be accessed.  This scholarship is open to Māori students studying a Bachelor Honours Degree or Master’s Degree with a focus on freshwater ecosystems. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage Māori students to pursue a research career and develop their capability in freshwater ecology and/or kaupapa Māori research surrounding wai.  Scholarship value: $7,500.

NZFSS Scholarship in Freshwater Research

This scholarship is to support postgraduate research to gain a deeper understanding of any aspect of freshwater environments in Aotearoa. The research may include fundamental or applied science, mātauranga Māori, engineering, law, economics or any other field of relevance in freshwater management and protection. The scholarship is available to Masters and Honours degree candidates, tenable for the year in which they will undertake their thesis or dissertation research. Preference will be given to applicants who have limited financial resources, who may otherwise not be able to undertake or continue post-graduate study.  Scholarship value: $7,500.

Golden Plover Wetland Research Award

NZFSS has partnered with the National Wetland Trust to provide the Golden Plover Wetland Research Award. This award is open to any students enrolled part- or full-time in a honours or masters degree at any New Zealand University who is conducting research in any aspect of ecology or management of wetlands. This award is administered by the University of Waikato. Scholarship value: up to $2,000.
